About Mao's Kitchen Venice

Full service Chinese restaurant

Located at 1512 Pacific Ave, Venice, CA 90291, Mao's Kitchen Venice operates as a chinese restaurant serving Venice in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Venice; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 12:30–10 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (310) 581-8305. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is maoskitchen.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Its Google rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 860 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect.

Venice is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Venice follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Good food for the price. Place is not very nice and lacks of air conditioning. Staff is very attentive Difficult to find where to park

Expected a bit more of this place which has indoor and outdoor seating and a big variety if Chinese dishes but unfortunately the order we places was incorrect (we had take out) missed a bowl of rice, wrong level of hot on the one meal and that after such a long wait was really disappointing. Overall flavour was also not great.

What a fantastic dining experience! Mao is easily one of the best Chinese restaurants we've visited in Venice Beach. Every dish was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of authentic flavor. The soup was absolutely outstandingβ€”rich, comforting, and perfectly seasoned. The noodles were cooked to perfection with an amazing texture, and the sauces truly stole the show. Every sauce was unique, flavorful, and elevated each dish to another level. The staff was warm, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome from start to finish. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the service was fast. We will definitely be coming back. Highly recommendedβ€”an easy five stars!

I was really drawn in by the restaurant’s decor β€” the vintage-style paintings on the walls made me suspect it’s run by Chinese owners. Every table is served complimentary snacks that brought back memories of home. The portions are very generous and the value is great. The only downside is that the flavors are clearly adapted and quite different from authentic Chinese cuisine. For example, the cumin lamb we ordered had pears stir-fried in it, creating a mix of sweet, spicy, and salty that was hard to enjoy. But considering it’s a foreign country, the taste is acceptable. The owner was very friendly and the service was quick. If you’re truly looking for authentic Chinese food, just be aware it’s been adjusted for local tastes.

It was a busy night and looked like they were understaffed, but for a first timer it was the best timer! The selections were all amazing. The fried rice with the egg on top was delectable; even the ginger ale was fresh and delicious. Looking forward to return for some more! The waitress was extremely friendly and welcoming so expect good vibes, akin to the Venice Beach spirit :)
